Hydaburg, Alaska is located 45 air miles due west of Ketchikan, Alaska on an island called Prince Of Wales Island. Prince Of Wales Island is the America's third largest island in United States.

Hydaburg is located on the coastal area of the bay called Sukkwan Bay.Hydaburg's position is: 55° 16' 23" North latitude and 132° 37' 59" West longitude.

Hydaburg current population is about 364. It is a small coastal fishing community founded in 1911 when it was consolidated from four smaller village for the purpose of building a public school there.

Hydaburg enjoys its rich heritage of local resources it developed over the years from its cultural native heritage called Haida Indians.

Their ancestor originated from Queen Charlotte Island, British Columbia Canada.

The Haida people are extremely talented and proud people who were raised in a strong tradition of their ancestors passed on from generations to generations.

Their talents ranges from native carving, native Haida languages, substance gathering, maritime livelihood such as commercial fishing, long shoring, boat chartering, and many others maritime trades they pursued as their primary livelihood, also they are very talented in the accomplishment in many of the fields they pursued.
Hydaburg is also recognized for the Hydaburg Haida Nation Native Dancers called: The Haida Nation Dancers at which is very well known thru out the world.
Hydaburg's primary economy is Logging, Long shoring, Commercial Fishing, Government, Schools, and Local Businesses.

Hydaburg have several local businesses serving local resident such as: Grocery store, fuel oil company, post office, gift shop, video rental & snack shop, boat chartering service and few bed & Breakfast service.
More shopping and services are available in Craig, Klawock also in Ketchikan.

Hydaburg is connected to a paved highway accessing to Craig, Klawock, Hollis, and Thorne Bay and the rest of the islands which have over 1,500 miles of roads all over the island, Hydaburg also have access to the Island's own ferry system called Inter-lsland Ferry Authority (IFA). A daily ferry service between Ketchikan and Hollis is provided twice a day during the Summer months and one daily ferry during the winter's month. The island's ferry lands in Hollis ferry dock.

Alaska Airline is the only air travel service that reach Ketchikan International Airport.

There are several local float plane and wheeled services in Ketchikan provide regular service to the Prince Of Wales Airport in Klawock and to Hydaburg in its route including mail runs. there are other ways to reach by way of Hydaburg is regular float plane flight schedules to Hollis also. Local airlines serving Prince Of Wales Islands are: Promech Airlines Pacific Airways & L.A.B. Flying Service.

Hydaburg has two-forms of government serving Hydaburg, one is a municipal government at which Hydaburg is a 1st class form of municipal government called City Of Hydaburg, The City government provides full city service such as: Fire and rescue service, water, sewer and garbage service and many other essential basic service city government provides.
Among other services City Of Hydaburg provides is a clinic building at which is leased to SEARHC, Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, for providing public health service to Hydaburg, Also City Of Hydaburg owns a Youth Center building and leased to Boys & Girls Club of Hydaburg a national member organization providing recreational services to the youth of Hydaburg.City Of Hydaburg also owns a city dock that houses a ice making plant for fishing vessels and Hydaburg Boat Harbor with a grid iron boat dry docking facility. City Of Hydaburg has the "top of line" water filtration system plant funded by "Safe Village Water Program" producing clean water supply for Hydaburg residents. City Of Hydaburg also have a President & Board member elected form of public school system called Hydaburg City School District. The school houses over a hundred students from Kindergarten to High School Seniors. The school have two basketball gym, a library, a vocational building that houses the high school class, and a little league baseball field. Hydaburg also have a new Senior League baseball field. Hydaburg also have a pre-school facility that houses daytime child care service called Hydaburg Headstart Program.
The other form of government is a tribal council form of government serving local Haida tribes members called Hydaburg Cooperative Association. Both organization provides excellent service to the community.
Haida Corporation Owns the majority of the lands surrounding Hydaburg as a local native Corporation providing services to its shareholders in Hydaburg and abroad. Haida Corporation is organized under the ANCSA, Alaska Native Settlement Claims Act when Congress passed the law in 1971 granting land ownership to local corporation and granting local natives as shareholder.
Sealaska Corporation is the regional corporation that represents Southeast Alaska as a regional Native corporation, providing services to regional native shareholders in Southeast Alaska.
Central Council Of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes Of Alaska represents all Southeast Alaska Natives tribe members providing services to members as a regional Southeast Alaska Tribal council.
Another organization in Hydaburg representing Hydaburg natives is Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp #6 and Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp # 6. both organization provide recreational activities and advocating for Alaska natives.
State Of Alaska Dept. Of Transportation owns the a new airplane float built in the mid 90's and most recently they have completed the three year project paving the 23 miles Hydaburg Highway.

Hydaburg climate is one of the warmest climate in Alaska, the weather ranges from 40's in the winter and high 70's during the summer because of its location being the farthest south of Alaska. Hydaburg in the winter sees an average of two weeks of snow on the ground and one month of freezing temperature out of the entire year but the rest is warm with rain and some wind storm.

Summer is extremely suitable for many outdoor activities such as outdoor camping on the beach, open skiff boating and sport fishing and even cruising.
Hydaburg is located away from any ocean swells that would make a new comer seasick on the boat.

The surrounding of Hydaburg has many small islands that boaters can venture into for sightseeing, outdoor camping, and hot spot fishing.
There are so many wildlife in the area and also many marine mammals to see in the area such as: Whales, Dolphin, Sea Otters, Seals,Seal lions,Elephant Seals, beaver, black bear eagles and many, many others.

Fishing is plentiful depends on the seasons, have King Salmon, Sockeye, Silver, Pink,
Red Snapper, Halibut and many, many others.

Many of the bays near Hydaburg have high amount herrings living in area at which many fishes and marine mammals remain in the area as residence.
Many Whales are known to remain as residence in the area as the reasons why it is exciting to see whales venturing very close to you.
Killer Whales Runs through Hydaburg twice a year, one in the spring and one in the Fall, some are known to stay in the area for a while.
Hydaburg is also an excellent place to enjoy scuba diving adventures since the water is crystal clear during the winter and visibility is fair during the summer. The seals and sea lions are very friendly with scuba divers and even very playful.
